The Wayfarer is a piece for an intermediate string ensemble. The simplistic legato melody portrays a wanderer on a journey through the countryside. Though composed in D minor, the piece avoids any extension Bbs or C#s making this minor tonal centre more accessible for younger students. There is a D major section in the middle that features the cellos and violas before the opening melody returns. The piano part is not essential but certainly adds depth and character to the music.
