La Scappatella
La Scappatella is Italian for “The Escapade”. The music was inspired by the composer’s adventures through the Italian countryside with the opening depicting galloping horses through the hills. It is a very energetic piece requiring good bow control and tone throughout the expansive melodies. The slower middle section in C Major features the cellos with the melody which is then repeated in the upper strings. This piece is fun to play and is easily achievable by an intermediate string orchestra.
