Bird Songs

This piece was inspired by some information plaques at a children’s playground at the Gold Coast, Australia, where the children could play the bird calls on the metal tubes provided. The details of the birds and their calls are below. It is composed in two parts for flexible string ensemble along with a separate part for double bass and piano. Ask your students to identify the bird calls within the piece. A calm, gentle and soft piece which helps develop legato string crossings and secure intonation in a familiar D major key.
